Ever since a co-worker mentioned his blog, the ease of its creation and maintenance, I’ve had the spark to create my own. His key advice, ”Write what you are passionate about.”
For me the list is long and the degrees of passion-spewing emotions vary, but it seemed pretty obvious that crochet has been a bug in my creative gland for as long as I can remember and should be the subject of my ramblings. From Mrs. Phelps, my babysitter when I was seven years old, teaching me my first granny square pot holder 1 , to the present, sometimes pre-pubecent, thirty-nine year old that I have become. Crochet has always been there in some form or another.
But that’s enough about the history of my hooker tendencies. There will be plenty of What-the-hell-am-I-going-to-write times to explore that mohair closet. Back to my co-worker stating how easy it was to create a blog. The research was easy enough. I knew what program I was going to use…WordPress. And WordPress was kind enough to list several suggestions of what server to use. Done and done. I was even encouraged when WordPress said they had a ”famous 5-minute installation.” I don’t know what rocket-science blogging universe their five minutes comes from, but from my little corner of the industrialized western world it was an agonizing all-morning affair. Ftp this, html that, upload your downloads, create five passwords (and counting), theming….ARGH! In the end my creative gland crawled into the embrace of my liver and begged for a beer. I obliged. A few beers and several help pages later I was up and running.
Am I pleased? Absolutely. I’ve traversed inside the dark caverns of the Internet’s ftp-ing soul. I’ve collapsed in the middle of said cavern only to whimper and ponder my blog worthiness. And, in spite of it all, I’ve managed to write my first blog entry. An entry that nobody will read.
- It should be noted that my love of the granny square has not kept pace with my passion for the art of crochet nor have I ever made another pot holder. Just saying. ↩
